Well... I live with a smoker. And trust me, the smell of that horrid nicotine permeates everything. What removes such a persistent odor? Laundry detergent can mask the odor but really doesn't seem to take all traces away.
I've found a product that

I freely admit that when I first received it and read the directions, I just didn't think it would work.
I was wrong.
When you open the bottle, the light fragrance draws you in -- it smells like fresh lemons. Lemons do smell so crisp and clean, don't they?
The directions call for one level cap full (one tablespoon) of
Smelly Towel Cleaner powder to one load of towels and hot water to wash. Skeptical, I was. But I followed the directions to the letter.
OHMIGOSH! It worked! It worked fabulously well! No nicotine odor -- none! Seriously, I was stunned. The towels smelled so good, so clean!
The next load I washed was Mike's work clothes and... not only did they smell lovely but they were deeply cleaned. And you don't need fabric softener, either. Residue from soaps can cause clothes to feel a bit stiff and scratchy.
